NEW! Proposed Institutional Requirements for Review and Comment

The Institutional Requirements and accompanying Impact Statement are posted for review and comment on the ACGME website. The Institutional Review Committee (IRC) welcomes reflective commentary, including support for and suggested modification of the proposed Requirements.

Additionally, these proposed Institutional Requirements reflect the February 2026 decision by the ACGME Board of Directors to eliminate the categorization of ACGME requirements as Core, Detail, or Outcome.

Comment Deadline: April 25, 2026

The categorization will also be removed from all Program Requirements during the forthcoming major revision of the Common Program Requirements; more information will be shared regarding those updates when the Common Program Requirements are released for public review and comment later this year. Note that the formal elimination of the Core/Detail/Outcome categorization will have the same effective date as the revised Institutional and Common Program Requirements once those are set and announced.
