FRIDAY! ACGME Seeks Appeals Panel Members

The ACGME is seeking physicians to serve on standing Appeals Panels for the following specialties:

  • Allergy and Immunology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Radiation Oncology
  • Transitional Year

Apply by April 25, 2025.

Applicant Criteria

  • Must be certified by the relevant American Board of Medical Specialties member board or American Osteopathic Association certifying board.
  • Must be able to devote sufficient time to the Appeals Panel work.
  • Should have at least three years’ experience as a program director, department chair, associate/assistant program director, and/or core faculty member.
  • Applicants not currently serving in one of these roles may be considered if they held one of these positions within the last three years.
  • Applicants’ programs must have a status of Continued Accreditation.

The window for submitting CLER visit blackout weeks is now open through April 26, 2025, for blocking off dates in the period highlighted below. Sponsoring Institutions can submit up to four blackout weeks during this period. Upcoming Windows for Entering Blackout Weeks

  • April 1-26: Submit requests for July-September 2025
  • July 1-26: Submit requests for October-December 2025
  • October 1-26: Submit requests for January-March 2026
  • January 1-26: Submit requests for April-June 2026

Case Log Updates for Hand Surgery (Orthopaedic Surgery)

Effective in May 2025, and retroactive for Academic Year 2024-2025, Case Logs for hand surgery (orthopaedic surgery) will be reported by procedure, which will count multiple procedures performed during a single case.

This change will enable all tracked CPT codes entered into ADS and the ACGME Case Log System to be reflected in ADS reports. Email questions to the Review Committee staff.

By 2030, the US is expected to have a shortage of maternity care clinicians, particularly in rural areas, where family physicians fill a critical need for delivery care. Using concept mapping, a participatory approach that produces a visual representation of key concepts, this study explored factors affecting family medicine residents’ decision making around providing obstetric care in their future practice.

Construct Validity Evidence for ACGME Milestones in Surgical Specialties: A Systematic Review

This systematic review identifies studies that report validity evidence for Milestones in surgical specialties, highlighting areas where further research is needed to support Milestones’ moderate- to high-stakes use in a competency-based medical education system.


Developing Faculty Competencies in Assessment

Participants learn how to build effective assessment programs for their residency or fellowship, with topics including assessment methods, feedback, direct observation, Clinical Competency Committees, and more. The course is being held in a split format July 23-25 and October 15-17 (registrants attend on all session dates). Registration closes June 27.
