Empowering Institutional Leaders: A Full-Day Learning Experience at #ACGME2026
Leaders of Sponsoring Institutions play a vital role in shaping the quality and success of graduate medical education (GME). To support these efforts, the Full-Day Course for Sponsoring Institutions at the 2026 ACGME Annual Educational Conference offers a dedicated opportunity for designated institutional officials (DIOs), institutional coordinators, and other institutional leaders to engage in a day of learning, collaboration, and professional growth.
This comprehensive day is designed to provide informational updates and interactive learning experiences that address the evolving needs of Sponsoring Institutions. Through presentations, case-based discussions, and peer exchange, participants will explore strategies that strengthen institutional oversight and promote effective management of GME programs.
Interactive Sessions
Attendees will gain insights into current trends, expectations, and proven practices in institutional governance, and develop the skills needed to enhance oversight, communication, and accountability within their organizations. The format encourages participants to share experiences, ask questions, and learn from peers.
The Full-Day Course represents an important opportunity for institutional leaders to deepen their expertise and strengthen their collective commitment to high-quality GME.
Additional Course Highlights
Throughout the course, there will be an overview of institutional site visits and site visit preparation, with an added section on program site visit preparation from the perspective of an institution.
While the topics may appear the same as in past years on the agenda, they have been refreshed to contain recent information to ensure all attendees – new and seasoned – get the most out of the schedule. Other topics that will be discussed during the day include decisions made by the Institutional Review Committee, Requirements changes, and best practices to address common citations.
Why Attend
Whether new to the conference or this course, attending ensures all participants are kept aware of new information and can network with other DIOs and institutional coordinators from across the country.
