Jessica Bienstock, MD, MPH
Dr. Jessica Bienstock is the senior associate dean for graduate medical education and the designated institutional official at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is a professor in the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics. Prior to her current position, she was the medical student clerkship director for the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins for seven years and the residency program director for 16 years.
Dr. Bienstock serves as a leader both for Johns Hopkins and for residency and fellowship programs around the country. She is the chair of the Governance Committee of the ACGME Board of Directors and a member of the ACGME Back to Bedside Work and Advisory Group. She served on the Coalition for Physician Accountability’s UME-GME Review Committee. Previously, she was the chair of the ACGME Review Committee for Obstetrics and Gynecology and was elected as the chair of the Council of Review Committee Chairs. She was a member of the ACGME Common Program Requirements Phase 1 and Phase 2 Task Forces and led the development and piloting of the Milestones for Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Dr. Bienstock is the director of graduate clinical education at Johns Hopkins, where she oversees all of the allied health internship, residency, and fellowship programs.
Dr. Bienstock is a founder and co-lead of the Johns Hopkins Visiting Elective in Equitable Healthcare, an elective designed to recruit fourth-year medical students for residency at Johns Hopkins.
Dr. Bienstock’s clinical work focuses on the management of women with high-risk pregnancies. Her work gained national recognition when she cared for the first reported long-term survivor of fetal bilateral renal agenesis treated with serial amnioinfusion, who has since successfully undergone renal transplantation. This work changed the treatment options offered to families facing this previously uniformly fatal fetal diagnosis.
